Later that night a wet sensation on her lip suddenly woke her up as her father was standing over her, still in a drunken state as he mumbled, "Oh my love we haven't loved eachother in so long." He was obviously still hallucinating about her mother as he suddenly put his hand on her leg and started gently touching it and rubbing it. He then grabbed her nightgown and started to pull it up. Luckily before anything further could happen he snapped out of his hallucination and reverted back to yelling as he noticed she slapped him. "YOU HIT ME! YOU HIT ME!" Suddenly however he noticed his hand on her nightgown and became concerned at his behavior. Being a child abuser was one thing, but being...he couldn't even say it...that was something else. He suddenly calmed himself and quickly told her, "We'll head to your grandmother in the morning! Lock your door and don't let me in until we leave for her house tomorrow!"
===
He grew angry as she kept mentioning Peter Pan, "Peter! Peter! Peter! I'm sick of hearing that name you crazy old loon! This is the real world! He is a myth! Get that in your head! And Wendy is my daughter! I can do whatever I want to with her!" He suddenly reverted back to a cold-dead stare towards her and told her, "You are dead to me mum and so is Wendy. She is coming with me and I never want to see you again in my life after today. I am going to make sure that someone tries to put you in a mental facility for your bizarre behavior."

Her eyes sleepily blinked open. "Wha-" she stopped talking when she felt his hand and suddenly she was wide awake and sitting up. She pulled her hand back then swung it forward as hard as she could across his face. Taking his moment if confusion to scramble back away from him and to pull a pillow over her body. She nodded quickly again, unable to talk. He had hit her and kicked and pushed her down the stairs. But today he had made two inappropriate advances and she had though that was the one thing he would never do. She waited till he left and closed the door behind him before she sprung up from her bed and locked it. She had hit him. She hit him and he didn't even really yell at her. She adjusted her night grown before pulling a chair over and propping it under the door knob for extra security. There was no way he was going to beable to sleep now, so instead he began packing an overnight back with all the essentials she would need to stay at her grandmas. ---------------------------------- ------------------------------- Jane released him and stepped back. "Stop that! Peter Pan is real and more of a man then you'll ever be." They were by now attracting states from other funeral attenders, including Wendy who watched with a gapping jaw and tear filled eyes. She hadn't noticed before but there was a faint bruise on the young girls cheek. Jane turned back to her son furiously. "If you hate her so much give he too me." She could make room for her, Wendy wasn't much of a handful and he school was near her house. "I will take her off your hands, you won't have to worry about feeding her."

As Wendy started to pack a happier memory started to enter her thoughts...
Her mother was still alive as her father approached a younger 12-year old Wendy and told her, "Oh my little princess I got you something." He suddenly pulled from behind his back a nice Ipod, the one she was listening to earlier today. He then said to her, "Oh my darling Daddy would do anything to make you happy." Suddenly he looked at his wife Sarah as he smiled and told her, "Honey the factory I worked for offered to pay half of the payment. We are getting a new car! That is why I am celebrating by making Wendy happy!"
===
The next morning her father finally dressed himself decently and took Wendy and her bag through the city streets. With a lack of funds he was unable to afford the car he used to own and had to sell it for the extra money. Suddenly he looked at a sight he never thought he would see again as he looked at his mother's house. He sighed as he quickly walked up to her door and knocked on it. After a few minutes Jane finally appeared at the door and answered before he looked at her and said, "Mum you told me I could bring Wendy to you if she needed to be fed. Well I lost my job and I need someone to feed and house her while I find another one." He paused as he noticed his mother looking at the scars and bruises his daughter had as he said to his mother, cold and distant, "I had a hard time after I lost my job today and took it out on Wendy."
===
Her father quickly looked at his mother saying, "No. Wendy's punishment will be she will be given no love by me since she was the one who choked all the love out of me!" Suddenly the memory ended at that.

She frowned at the mirror, her face was bruised in the places he had hit her, her lip was split and her head throbbed where she had been slammed into her window. Quickly she turned away from the window again and began getting ready. Wendy finished brushing her teeth then shoved her tooth brush into her bathroom bag before carrying that into her bedroom and putting it in her overnight bag. She had packed 4 outfits, her iPod and headphones, along with other esentials. She tapped the iPod with a finger and smiled as the memory hit her before shaking her head and roughly zipping the bag closed. It would never be like that again. She through her heavy bag over her shoulder and walked downstairs to follow him towards her grandmas house, admiring the neighbor hoods she knew so little about and staying a few feet behind her dad while they walked. When they finally reached the somewhat familiar house her excitement grew. ___________________ Jane had been writing down another of her stories from her adventures with Perer Pan and the boys. She missed him so much and hoped that she would seem him someday again. She wrote down every adventure she's had with them in hopes of one day giving them to Wendy. The girl knows about Peter Pan from stories when she was younger but there was so much more to share. She looked up when there was a knock on her door, it must be her delivery of groceries. Her hair, long and more grey then brown was righted up in a bun on her head, her skin remained however almos winkle free and she still ha an endless amount of energy. She stood up straight and walked to the door before opening to great her guest. When she saw who it was her smile faltered and her expression became harder. As he spoke she looked past him at her granddaughter. Wendy is a lot older now, it had been 7 years and she had matured from when she was 10. Her eyes grazed over her battered face then down to the scars on her bare arms. Jane reached past him with out a word to the man who declared her dead, grabbing Wendy's arm and tugging her forward past her dad and into the home behind her. She looked at him again. "You're a monster. Sarah would be embarrassed and ashamed of what you have become." She stepped back and grabbed the door as if to close it, blocking his view of Wendy.

(I'll skip ahead a bit)
Later that night Wendy slept peacefully knowing no one would harm her now that her father was not around. Everything was quiet in the room as the only sound was one of Jane's old clocks tick-tocking away to show the time. As if out of no where a commotion started as a dark figure flew inside the house making some racket and a boy's voice called forth, "Shadow? Shadow? Where are you?" A boy, dressed in green tights, around her age quietly opened the window to her room and tip-toed around trying to locate his shadow. His shadow suddenly flew from the young boy and under Wendy's bed as he quickly tried to snatch it, making plenty of noise and racket as it woke Wendy up. The young boy in green did not announce himself as he kept going closer to his shadow. Suddenly however he noticed a set of eyes staring at him as he realised a girl was in the room with him. Why would she not? This is the same house he first encountered Wendy and Jane all those years ago. This time however he was surprised that she was alone, with no brothers to speak of. He noticed she was about to scream as he quickly said, "SHH! It is alright. I am a friend. I mean you no harm." Suddenly he skipped up in the air and floated as he told her, "My name's Peter. What's yours?" He started doing dog-paddling in the air obviously not taking himself too seriously and trying to have fun.

She bolted up at the sudden noises, he's back isn't he? He promised she could stay! She would be safe with her grandma. Her eyes searched the room frantically in search of her dad, but instead of a man aging on years her eyes fell on a boy about her age. Wearing green tights and a funny little hat running around in the dark. She took a deep breath and opened her mouth to scream, how had he even gotten here? Suddenly the air escaped her again with out sound. The boy approaching her and sushing her. As he got closer she pushed herself further away until she risked falling off the bed. "I'm Wendy." She replied hesitantly. He was close enough now that she could make out the fine features of his face in the dark.

Peter quickly recognized the name and he at first thought this was the first Wendy as he said with a beaming smile, "Oh Wendy it is me! It is Peter Pan! Oh I am sure glad to see ya!" However he quickly remembered that the last time he saw her she was all grown up and this Wendy looked different. He still could not understand however as he said, "Wendy did you go back to childhood? Why do you look so different? Where is Jane, your daughter?" He quickly looked at her arms and face, all scarred and bruised, and said with concern, "What happened to ya?"

Peter Pan? Jane had told her stories of Peter Pan once, but she could barely remember them. He seemed to fit the description. Back to childhood? What is he talking about now? She frowned at him. "Jane isn't my daughter she's my grandma." Subconsciously she reached and skimmed her fingers over the largest bruise on her face. Lie, no ones aloud to know and if they figure it out he will kill you. "I was cleaning the gutters and I fell." Reaaaaaal smooth Wendy. Totally believable. "What are you doing here?" He was flying. She finally processed that, to confused before to notice. He can't be a boy playing a prank he can only be the real Peter Pan. She frowned. But how does he actually exist?

Peter tried to comprehend as he was looking at a different Wendy as he said, quite sadly, "So Wendy is gone?" However when she told him about cleaning the gutters and asked what he was doing here Peter quickly returned to his child-like innocence. He naively believed her story about cleaning the gutters as he looked at her with a big smile and said, "Well in Never-land there are no chores! There is only fun and games all day long!" When she asked him what she was doing here Peter quickly said in embarassment, "I...lost my shadow..."
===
Meanwhile downstairs her drunken father stumbled through the door as he looked around his mother's house. He quickly saw his mother on the couch and shook her awake as he said in a drunken stupor, "Where is Wendy? Where is she? I need someone to love me..."

His comment about Wendy was quickly dismissed when she heard what he said next, Neverland exists! She suddenly jumped up from her bed. "It's real then? Neverland I mean. With adventures and lost boys and tinker bell? Where you never grow old!" Her eyes shined with excitement. "I've dreamed about neverland for years." She sighed longingly then gave him an odd look. "How do you loose your shadow?" She glanced around the room. If I was a shadow where would I hide? "It's probably disguised by other shadows....turn on the light." She pointed to the switch by the door. ___________________________ The old women grumbled as she was shaken awake. She looked at him uncomprehendedly before smacking his hand away. "She's probably in neverland already, I think I heard Peter in the room upstairs. Careless boy probably lost his shadow again. Again." She yawned and turned away from him again. To tired to realize that she had told him where the room was and to sleepy to register what he had just told her.

Peter smiled at her with youthful enthusiasm, "Of course it exists! I...you can go there with me once I get my shadow." He did as she said and quickly turned on the light. He suddenly saw his shadow by her bed as he quickly did a running leap towards it however fell with a thud in the floor as his shadow went through his hands' grasp. He then looked around the room again for it as he did small talk to pass the time, "You know you can only get to Neverland by flying." He saw his shadow again and this time caught it as he put his shadow behind him, the young boy in green casting a shadow finally. He then said to Wendy, "You can only get to Neverland with fairy dust and thinking of a happy memory. So think of the happiest moment in your life and I will sprinkle some fairy dust on you."
===
Her father quickly said to his mother, "What the bloody hell are you talking about mum?! There is no Neverland and Peter Pan!" He decided to go up to his daughter's room anyway however and as he heard the thud muttered, "That damn girl can never keep quiet..." However before he got up to her room he collapsed on the stairs and passed out.

She watched him, pointing at the shadow every time she saw it and telling him it's position. When he finally go it she relaxed and leaned back against his bed. "Can I really go?" He watched him reattach his shadow. "This just doesn't seem real." She heard something fall from in the house and she quickly stood up. "Jane?" She started towards the door. She hoped the old women hadn't come up to check on her and fallen. She stopped a the door and put her hand on the handle before glancing back at Peter. "I will be right back, don't leave without me ok?" She waited for him to nod before she opened the door and half closed it behind her. Walking down the hall, she finally reached the stairs and screamed when she saw her father passed out. The noise must have woken him and he started to stir. She stared at him with wide frightened eyes as she rapidly backed up till she tripped and fell on her butt. "You're not supposed to be here!" She had forgotten to filter her words and yelled it at him. Down stairs Jane stirred but fell back to sleep again, the women was known for sleeping like a hybernating bear.

Her father heard her yelling at him but only mumbled, "Wendy please..." Peter quickly glanced out and saw the older man passed out but quickly ducked behind the door as he told her, "If you wish to go we must go as soon as possible..." He quickly smiled however and sprinkled some fairy dust on her as he said, "Now think of the happiest moment you ever had..." As he said this his past life suddenly flashed back to him with his mother talking about sending him to the best schools to be groomed as a member of the higher class. He didn't want to grow up however and tried to escape from that. It was after he went away that he found Tink and she brought him to Neverland.

She shook her head as she looked at her father then up at Peter again as he sprinkled on the fairy dust. She closed her eyes and thought. Back when she was maybe 9 years old. Her mother and father had taken her to the zoo an they were riddin the giraffes. She had sat on her fathers lap and her mother sat just behind her. They all laughed when the animal made a funny noise. With her eyes still closed her feet slowly left the ground, she peeked open one eye and looked down at the ground with a wide smile. "I'm flying!" She looked up at him again and reached out to grab his hand. "Hurry! Before he gets up!" She glanced nervously back to her dad again.

Peter quickly guided her through the front window with a self-confident smile on his face as he said, "Come on!" Soon they were out the window and were gliding over her house and the tops of the tallest buildings. Peter quickly smiled mischeiviously as he pulled a prank on her and immediately let go of her hand. As he saw her scramble to his arm thinking she was going to fall, he laughed loud and hard, like an immature little boy, "HAHAHA! The look on your face!" Luckily for Wendy the fairy dust still made her fly, even without Peter holding on to her hand. Peter however put on a happy face again as he told her, "In Neverland one can never grow tired of adventures. There are mermaids, pirates, hideouts, everything you could ever want, away from the adults and their wanting you to grow up and do boring things."
