How about a brief introduction of yourself?
Hi.
I'm Shauni.
And I attempt fanfiction. <3
Fabulous! And what got you into fanfiction to begin with?
Transformers Armada.
It was a magical year in which I first discovered fanfiction.net, and went to read fanfictions in two of my favorite subjects. Back then I liked to read Transformers Armada fanfictions, and eventually other fandoms
But the Transformers ones inspired me. I saw what other people were doing, and shoved myself in there. BADLY I might add, but I did make quite a name for myself in the little 'cult' I was apparently in.
I see, so what kind of fanfiction do you like to write?
Mostly Transformers.
I'm like a Transformers addict. I get sooo many ideas for it, usually from the littlest things .I could be watching one episode and notice something that gives me an idea. Literally, I overflow with fic ideas in this genre, which is the problem because I love this fandom to death. Haha, my mother was wrong. I never grew out of it like my cousins did. ;
Secondly, Batman. Specifically 'The Batman' or Batman the animated series. I love writing for some of the wacky characters and various pairings, and I have fan characters I like to mix up with canons.
I also like to occasionally write for these other fandoms ( I like to jump around and do other fandoms, but these are other ones that keep popping up more than once) : Hellboy, Harvest Moon, Dragonball Z, lots of other stufff
If we're talking genres, it varies. I really like to include a lot of different genres into a story, though looking at what I have fun writing...I guess humor, action-adventure, supernatural, sci-fi, fantasy, and suspense are my faves. Sometimes horror.
I do like to write ridiculous humor fanfictions with blatantly way OOC characters, but I also like writing stories that are entirely bittersweet in their ending...and conflict is always fun to write. <3
Do you tend to write to write the same pairings/characters? Or are you a fandom *****?
Uhmmm....I do write about certain characters a lot, but likewise I like to write about a ton of different ones. So I'm either in the middle, or the latter. xD
What is your most popular fanfic and why do you think people like it so?
That would have to be the Armada version of Transformers playing survivor. I know why people liked it, they told me in their reviews. They loved the crazily ooc humor, thought I had some great wit with the jokes I made, and thought everything I was putting those poor characters through was, and I quote from reviews 'pure genius'.
=3
That fanfiction, although not serious and in that horrid script format, definitely made me less intimidated about posting around the transformers section. I got some awesome reviews.
Forget other people. What is the fanfiction you've written that you're most proud of?
Eh, unfortunately, I have issues both with finishing fan fictions -and- with appreciating my own work. It's really hard for me now to say I'm proud of anything I wrote, though...I suppose it'd either have to be that one pokemon fic I wrote then deleted, oorr some Transformers Armada one. I mean, I'm trying to rewrite my first one, and I'm at least proud of the fact I recognized the need to completely overhaul my token, annoying human.
Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the most difficult aspects of writing you struggle with?
You know, it's funny. When I'm role playing, I find writing easy. Moreso if I'm on one of those lit/adv sites. They push me to get better, or else they kick you out. And looking at posts for characters I'm playing there, I realize I'm a much better writer in that situation than I am when writing fanfictions.
I don't know what it is. I have this 'great' view of how something should play out, a thesaurus at hand in case I decide to go outside my vocabulary, and I have all the detail pictured out. And then I never integrate those.
My fanfictions become shallow and superficial, more dialogue and rambling than what I originally intend to put in. So I wouldn't say I'm a good writer, because I am constantly let down by my own work. I mean, I don't understand. In role playing I can get to the level I want to reach with fanfiction, but when left to my own devices, eh...I just get lazy I guess. Every now and then I'll put in the commitment and detail I want, but crappy fanfictions are more of what you get from me.
My biggest problem beyond that is finishing what I start. I have so many ideas, and I always feel like if I don't write them down, I'll lose them. Then writing them down leads to me getting bored with something else I've already done, or maybe I didn't plan out the first fanfiction well enough and finally realized I'm not going anywhere with it or I just plain don't give a crap about it anymore. Then I want to do this next one, and the cycle just continues. It's vicious, and I really hate to constantly go through it and let people down, but I just can't seem to help it. I'll be so freaking pumped to do a project, and then halfway through my drive just crumbles. I know now it may be brought on by my medication which can hamper cognitive functions and drive, but still. That doesn't make it any easier to cope with. I hate to see myself just throw projects away, especially if people ever liked them.
But I do it all the time. It's really become my trend, and I so desperately want to stop that vicious cycle. I do want to be able to cater to all my fandoms and my interests, but I just am not doing it right yet.
Write a few sentences or so of your favorite pairing or character:
lololol, nuuuuuuuu. Not right now. xD;
Are there any fanfiction trends/cliches you can't stand or are sick of?
Only one that comes to mind are....MST fics..where no permission was given.
If it's your own fic, or the author who owns it wants to be a good sport, I guess..It's alright. Still iffy with me a little, but I absolutely loathe the ones where somebody just finds a random fic, and mocks it relentlessly without the author even knowing. Happened to an old friend of mine, and he didn't write fanfiction again. =/ It crushed his spirit, so I hate those things.
I mean, if you find a fic you dislike- sure, laugh about it to yourself, to your friends...Is it really necessary to take this person's fic, then write yourself and some characters making fun of it- THEN post them a review linking them to it so they can be humiliated? =/ No, it's not. And I really wish I knew the people who did that to my friend- so I could give them a good, stern lecture.
Are you guilty of any of the trends/cliches you hate? Or any other ones?
Of course. I'm guilty of cliches OTHER than MST's. =) But I love the cliches I'm guilty of.
What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you still like/participate in it?
Transformers Armada. Love it still, watch it on DVD on the weekends with my bro. ; D I've expanded to loving and writing for most of the Transformers universe, so I am forever hooked on it. And I participate. But sadly I'm not involved in a big transfan community, because of the geewhiners. > : I need an all Armada board, but I was the only one to ever make a forum for it. I made a new one, it's still in existence. And I'm the only member. How sad.
Name yout OTPS or most frequently written pairings/characters and explain what it is about them that you love to write.
I really love anything with Blackarachnia. Her and Silverbolt, or animated her and Optimus. She's just a fun femme fatale to write for. She rocks.
I also like -some- Transformerxhuman pairings, though I write your standard botxbot and humanxhuman as well.
With the tfxhuman, it's changed for me. I still like it- but...I view it in the context of platonic love at best, but mostly approach it as a deeply-rooted friendship. I don't like doing the 'somebody changes species' or' tf uses hologram', nuu. ( though the hologram thing can be fun for things other than romantic reasons) I peg the Transformers as an asexual species that have no need for. Yoooou know, 'the goods'. But that doesn't mean they can't love, right? They obviously can!
But, tfxhuman- there are some ground rules for me. It's gotta be one of the series where the tfs aren't super huge in comparison. It happened briefly in g1...twice, I want to say, but yeah. They weren't as big in comparison as some others.
But again, I don't really treat it as romance. It's mooooore awesome friends for me at this point. But hey, the same goes for tfxtf. I dunno- I'm just in a phase where I'm tired of seeing robots with organic sexual organs or things like them, and thus am focused on a 'they r asexual' sort of mindset.
Uhm, I like writing conflictual pairings like batmanxcatwoman or jokerxharley. I like the ones that can have tender moments, but then they can try and beat each other, and then they'll be in love again. D8 Or crush on each other, something like that.
What would you call your writing style?
Bad. xDDDD
Do you read other people's fanfics? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?
Oh certainly. I love to read other fanfics and writing styles. They can inspire me to be like these writers.
These days, since I'm on experiment-based forums, I find myself reading experiment-based fanfictions the most. Which are all cute, and people do well to make them unique.
I really love a good Transformers fanfiction. Especially if it's in Beast wars, RID, Armada, the 2007 movie, or Animated.
I also like to read Hellboy fanfictions, pokemon, digimon, Indiana jones, Talespin...Really, anything that I find interesting. o3o Even if I don't know the fandom, I can still get into a story.
Name one thing you'd LOVE to write, but are too afraid or shy to do
Hrm. This changes -constantly-.
The haunted pumpkin of sleepy hollow thing, buuut it's an obscure fandom.
I also want to do something with my human fanchars in transformers and Sideways. Either Armada, TFA, or 2007 movie..Something like that.
Do you have trouble taking criticism? Or worse yet, do you have the dreaded bloated ego?
Not at all, provide that the criticism isn't flaming and is actually helpful. I don't think some people who read my fics have any idea how much I criticize myself. I am so insecure about my writing style, that I sometimes post things on forums where I notice people may not be as good at writing, or write shorter things. At least I used to, to make myself feel better.
Now I'm seeking constructive criticism. I really want somebody to point out where my flaws are, so I can strengthen. I'm trying to develop my style, and I see so many mistakes, that I can't tell where my true good points and the flaws I really have to worry about are. I know I have mistakes, and I want people to tell me where my weak points are in the actual writing, rather than just pity comments because nobody else has posted, or they didn't read it. xD
When you write is there anything that helps? music? quiet room?
Music a lot. But also reading other fanfictions for inspiration or simply watching the series helps too.
What inspires you?
lol, a lot actually. It comes from many places.
lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction experiences and yourself as a writer?
It's been an interesting and fun trip, to say the least.
As a writer, I'm much better than I used to be, especially as far as role playing is concerned, but I have a long way to go in fanfiction if I ever want to be like my favorite fanfic authors.
I also need to organize my ideas better and find some way to better stick to my projects.
