Yeah, I highly recommend this over the 2004 Joel Schumacher film.

Personal preferance. Mostly cause I've actually seen the theater version before and I'm not much convinced of Gerard Butler being somebody who was an outcast and a virgin due to his looks. Its like trying to convince me that Rob Patterson is Quasimodo; its just not possible for me.

I think I'm the opposite of most fans of this cause I saw the 2004 movie first before I actually saw the broadway show 3 years ago in 2009. I did hear there was quite a lot of Phantom of the Opera movies, but I think they were all done in the 1920s from what I heard.

You can hear reviews about the other movies from the Phantom Reviewer: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE3A2676DE643B535&feature=plcpAnother thing I don't like about the 2004 version is when the actors speak lines that are suppose to be sung; Little Lotte sounds REALLY dumb spoken in dialogue as opposed to when its sung.

I have the DVD for the Royal Albert Hall performance of the musical, and I thought it was very well done, despite a few minor changes from when I remember seeing the musical in person 3 times. I would bet that being at this performance in person would have been 10 times better. lol As for comparing between the stage version and the 2004 movie version, I'd say that the stage version is definitely a lot better. And don't get me wrong; there are many things about the movie that work, yet there are a few that quite don't (for example, Gerard Butler's singing (he had no formal vocal training before filming, so he has an excuse )). It's not a bad movie per se; it just doesn't hold a candle to the stage show.

Even though this performance doesn't have either of my favorite phantoms, I have to thank you so much for posting it, because the visuals and music are absolutely beautiful. <3 It's been ages since I've seen the musical downtown Chicago, so it's very nostalgic for me and as close as I can get to being there and I totally love it for that. I just wish the company would have thought to release DVDS like this more often, so that people with varying tastes could have a dvd as amazing as this. (..it would also be nice if they released cds from more stage shows, I'm pretty sure they record a lot of the shows so i don't understand why they don't.)
XD I wish I could have more stuff with Hugh panaro, though maybe not is for the best since I only like his voice and style on a few songs.
and i also totally agree with you guys on the 2004 movie, I'm not very keen on that at all. I don't really hate it, and I loved the visuals, but ugh I will forever be extremely disappointed in what they did with Erik.
