OOC1: Thanks! And funny you should say that because when I was brainstorming this idea for a while before writing it down, I ALMOST wasn't gonna go with the twist at the end of that post until I saw a Bagginshield video from Youtube and it got me inspired so I decided to add in there! Plus, I thought it would be really super fun to see what it would be like if Thorin was toss into the rp as well XD
BIC: The next morning after a quick small snacking of berries to eat for breakfast, the two halflings set off once again in hopes maybe they would soon catch up with their friends. This time with Angel walking alongside with Sam rather than keeping her distance away from him like she used to. Given from the night before, having her husband's best friend around was quite the nice company to have; surely better than being alone like from before.
"What are you thinking about?" Angel asks curiously to why Sam seem so quiet suddenly.
"Hmm? Oh, it's nothing!" Sam shortly replied, as though it was nothing important.
"Are you positive it's nothing?" Angel asks, looking at the hobbit for he seem appear to be thinking of something, so it was easy to tell that he wanted to mention something, but didn't exactly know where to start from.
Sam didn't exactly answer right away, but did take another second thinking it out clearly til he finally spoken up. "Actually, yeah! It is something. It's about your lifespan I'm curious about. You mind if I ask you a question about it?"
Angel stop walking right away, too hesitated to answered. "Umm...sure."
"Well, I don't know if you remember when Strider--"
"Strider?" Angel interrupted quickly with a confused look on her face.
"Oh, sorry! You know him as King Aragorn." Sam corrected himself before continuing. "Anyway, I don't know if you remember when he mention before to your adviser about half-elves being rare."
"You mean when they will choose having the life of becoming a full elf or a full human, if they are mixed with human?" Angel asks, to which Sam nodded. "What about it?" She asks.
"Well, your a hobbit born with wizard running in your blood." Sam added.
"Yes, that's correct." Angel nodded, understanding where it was leading at so far.
"But wizards and elves live by far the longest than humans, dwarves and hobbits do." Sam briefly explaining before getting to the question. "Soo....does this mean you can also--you know..." He try his best to imply the question a bit more clearer, but it didn't take Angel that long to figure out what he was trying to ask.
It had been far too obvious. "You mean to say if I should one day give up one of those for the other?" The queen asks the hobbit, somewhat very surprised at him that he should ever be asking her such a question.
"Can you?" Sam asked her.
But Angel was unsure if she could. "Don't you have to be a certain age in your life before making such a drastic choice?"
But Sam could not tell since he was not born with another lifespan in his blood like her, or Emily or their children. "I thought you might know."
"Uh...I'd--I'm not sure if I can. I never thought of it before." Angel answered, staring down at her hands, flickering a bit of her magic floating in her palms. No one had ever told her anything about that before. And if so, she probably would of made the decision of it long ago. But having been born of magical powers was a great gift to her, a gift she was not so very sure that she would be able to give up. The poor queen sighed sadly as she stopped the magic showing from her hands.
Sam can easily tell that due to her facial expressions, Angel was undecided on what to do with such decision like that. "You don't have to make the choice right away Queen Angel." He gently reassured to her. "You've got a lot of time to think about it."
"But what if I don't?" Says Angel. "I like being part wizard! It's who I am. I supposedly could choose into becoming a full wizard; I could be tall like Grace, and have as much magic just the same like every other wizard there is in Middle-Earth, but this would mean standing out like a sore thumb compare to Frodo."
"And don't forget, you wouldn't have hobbit ears anymore." Sam reminded her, taking a quick pointer at her feet. "Or that hobbit foot of yours. It would match the same like that wizard foot you got there."
Angel glance down quickly at her feet and saw that Sam made a very strong point. To be a full wizard would mean not having the appearance or the height of a hobbit anymore, and to stand out as more taller and more powerful would make her greater than any other queen there is. It was quite funny to think that looking back at the time of Grace's birth, nobody would ever expected for her young daughter to wind up with more of her wizard genes than anything else there was. And to picture what type of reactions Legolas, Gimli and Emily would have if they should ever do meet Grace, would more than likely become the same surprising reaction like everyone else has when it comes to meeting her and having to tell people that the she half-wizard was the daughter of a hobbit and a half-hobbit.
"There's always the other second choice you know, if you become a full hobbit." Sam shared with his own opinion. "You can still be able to grow old with Frodo." He added right away when Angel look right at him for saying that. "But...that would mean giving up my powers permanently." She frowned. The queen was not entirely sure of that second choice; on the other hand she really did not want to outlived Frodo, but at the same time, to lose all of her powers she had been able to mastered through the years would seem like a big waste to give it all up.
But despite all of that, Sam did secretly wished Angel would go with that option since she already had hobbit in her than anything else, but he would not forced her to make up her mind if she was not ready. "Well...you do what you think is right. No hurry." Sam encouraged the queen knowing that she will make the right choice someday if she did not come to regretting it.
By mid-afternoon, the hobbit/wizard queen and her companion hobbit were finally able to make it to the mountains with just hours to spared. "I don't see Frodo and the others anywhere." Angels said, growing a bit worriedly that she and the hobbit might not be able to find their friends.
"It takes a while to get passed these places." Sam tells her. "From my guess, by now they must be half-way close to Lothlorien." He added. "If we keep going without stopping, we should be able to meet up with them there by nightfall."
"I had a feeling it would take this long." Angel mumbled disappointingly with a deep defeated sighed. Sam worried too, but not as badly as the queen was and she had her reason why. Wondering what to do to keep their minds off from such bad and hopeless stress, Sam thought back of the good old days he had with his wife and children when they used to live in The Shire. Whenever their kids would feel frightened or upset over something, he and Rosie would sing to them a cheery song to make them happy again. But to think of a very jolly song was a tricky thing for him because he had sung so many to them, he didn't know to start out with something fresh or something that he already knew.
Sam began humming a few bars to himself, earning a quick puzzled like reaction coming from the queen, but she look away thinking that he may of been lost in his own little world, but he wasn't. He still hummed for just a bit longer til he finally turned it into singing;
"We stand shoulder to shoulder
We see eye to eye
We dive deep underwater
We jumped high in the sky
High"Angel would of lied to herself if she had not saw that one coming, but couldn't help but shown her surprised reaction to hearing Sam singing. It was something she had never heard him done before, but it had certainly had done the job right hearing a nice little happy tune to get her mind off things. She shook her head in amusement with a grinning smile on her face as she heard another verse being sung by him.
"We stand shoulder to shoulder
We stand side by side"But it wasn't long before Angel started joining in on purpose while he was in the middle of the song. If there was one thing she loved, it was singing.
"When one of us gets a tiny bit tired,
One gives the other a ride,
Ride!It seem to do the trick as they both felt a lot better and laughed a bit, but their joyous fun got cut off by a huge interruption when the ground underneath their feet gave out, causing the hobbit and the hobbit/wizard queen falling straight down a dark hole several feet down below. They were not unconscious for very long, but they had awoken up to a stir finding themselves lost somewhere in the dark.
"Ugh, I hate mountains. Remind myself never to travel around one again!" Sam grumbled to himself, a bit sore from the dark fall, but was okay. But because it was so dark, it was hard to see anything right in front of him. "Angel?" He called out for the queen's name. "Angel!?"
"I'm alright!" She calls out, though she couldn't see a thing either.
"I can't see a thing! It's too dark in here!" Sam called back, feeling like he was wandering around somewhere in circles.
"Wait, what's that?" Angels asks in a alarmed tone after hearing a couple of fallen rocks being dropped. Suddenly, there came a small light peeking out.
"Do you see that?" Sam asks, spotting the bright light.
"I do see it! It's daylight!!" Angel says to her amazement. "Let's followed it! It could lead us out of here!!" She says, and goes right after it.
"Hey, wait for me!!" Sam called out, trying to follow after the queen as fast as he could despite the small light of darkness. The two of them were able to make it where the light had lead them, and by working together, they dug their way out removing every single stone until they found themselves in the most beautiful location there ever was.
It was placed filled with a lovely small sight of a tropical waterfall, blooming flower fields, sand and sights of birds and butterflies easily spotted from the trees and even flying around in the air. "Wow, now there's a sight to see!" Sam said in awe, amazed by all it's glory and beauty.
Of all the places the queen had been too when she used to be a lost princess, this was one location she had not seen before, but remembering the description of it, she knew she had heard about it somewhere from somebody before. "I've heard about this!" She gasped. "My mother came here once as a child. She said this is the place where friendships were made."
Sam had no idea what to say but to stared at Angel, wondering if she had been that serious. Seeing how they were at the very top to where the running water was, Angel took this as an opportunity to go have some fun. "Come on!" She says, grinning with excitement and grabbed a tight hold of Sam's hand, taking her along with him to go for a dive.
"Whoa whoa whoa whoa!!!" Sam cried, trying to put his hobbit feet to used by halting to stop, struggling out of the queen's grip til he had to shoved her hand away from his. "What are you doing?! You know I can't swim!!"
"Well fine then, suit yourself!" Angel shrugged her shoulder. "Find something else to keep you entertained." She added, and then took off running til she jump right off the end. "CANNONBALL!!" She shouted out loud til she hit the bottom of the water with a giant splash.
"Angel!!" Sam cried, running to the very edge but had to pulled himself back from falling. He look down to see any sight of the queen if she was okay, but the ground started crumbling to where it was holding the fat hobbit and then gave out. The poor hobbit as he tumbled down to his fall, but luckily landed on something hard from the water, breaking his fall. "Aaah my butt!" He winched, rubbing his sore bottom. "What I'd hit?" He asked, looking at the strange looking rock form he had ever seen.
"Strange looking rock I'd seen, but why is it moving in the water?" He asks, feeling a bit frightened. He got his answered right away when a head resurfaced from the water, turned to faced the hobbit and found Sam on his back. It revealed that the very thing Sam landed on was a very old giant tortoise. The old sea creature greeted the hobbit with a friendly lick to his face, accidentally causing him to fall right into the water.
Only then, he had already resurfaced for a quick moment and try to swim away. "AAAAAAAAH! GIANT TURTLE!!" Sam screamed, using all of his arms and legs he can used to get away from the sea animal. "GIANT TURTLE WANTS TO EAT ME!!!" He cried, but try as he can, he couldn't be able to out swim the tortoise. However, it was kind enough to help him get him back to the surface by grabbing a firm hold of his clothing behind the back and put him back on dry land.
Angel, whom happened to be swimming along side with one of the old tortoise, spotted the whole entire thing but couldn't help but laugh at what she had just saw. She swam on by over to him. "Aww is Samwise Gamgee afraid of a little old harmless sea turtle?" She asks, teasing him.
Sam could do nothing but smirked, but he got his short bit of a revenge by splashing a bit of the water right back at the queen, earning a a loud squealed from her. As he walked away to go and headed on over to the flower fields, Angel got out of the water and lay down in the sand, smiling to herself. Samwise was a very fun hobbit to be around with, there was no doubt about it.
She turned on over to the side, watching Sam sitting in the fields picking one flower after the other. Being the gardener that he is, he still had a very strong passion when it came to plants and flowers. The smile on Angel's face never left, and the next thing she had known, she found herself making a small confession about Sam through a soft part of a song;
"I've never had a best friend before
So I can't be sure
What it feels like
But I think it feels more like this, I do
I think I feel more like myself
When I'm with you!"Realizing what Angel had just sung, the smile on her face wiped off and she turned, looking away feeling guilt ridden about admitting Sam being her best friend.
"What am I thinking?!!? Samwise is not my best friend, Emily is! Isn't she?" She thought to herself, trying her best to convince that the only best friend she needed in her life is Emily and not Sam. It would be wrong to think that she could ever replace her old friend for someone by the likes of him when he was already her husband's very own best friend. But Samwise was a very good-hearted person now, so what was not to like about him? But still, even if she didn't wanted to admitted it out loud, she did wished she could of seen this more kinder side to Samwise sooner.
Luckily, Sam didn't hear anything through Angel's short part of the song of claiming him to be her friend, but he did had a bit of trouble of what flowers to choose from. "Hey Angel, come over here!" He called to get her attention.
Wondering what it was, Angel put away those thoughts on hold when the hobbit had addressed to her name. She got up and joined him in the fields, sitting right next to him. "Yeah?"
"What do you think of this?" Sam asks, showing her a beautiful red rose in his hand. "This flower? For Rosie? I'd like to think whenever I come home, I'd always presented her with gifts."
"Oh that! Heh! Yes, I'm sure she'll love it!" Angel says, liking that idea. "And it's perfect too, because her name is the same like the flower too. Rose, Rosie." She laughed lightheartedly. Sam was glad to hear that, and it was nice getting another woman's opinion on what type of flower would be a great gift to get. Gently, he set away the rose down and brought three other flowers he'd like to get a opinion of. "Now, I got these three flowers I found I want to give for my daughter, but I can't decide. I was wondering if you can help me." He says.
"See, the first one I got here is a lily. And she's sweet just like them, and then the other one I have here is a tulip. Cause it's pretty, just like her. And then I found this sunflower. Cause it's--"
"A ray full of sunshine, just like her name." Angel says, finishing off the words for him. "Goldilocks!" She added, smiling.
"I think I might go with the sunflower after all. Thanks!" Sam says, glad to have some help from the queen.
"Your welcome. I'd be more than happy to help." Angel insisted, if there was anything else Sam needed help with. Seeing how the whole field they were in was surrounded by flowers, it gave the queen an idea. "I have a good idea; I can help you make something outta these flowers. Perhaps, maybe like a nice flower necklace for Rosie and Goldie, if you want."
"Really?"
"Sure, of course! But I'm going to need twigs and vines to help keep them secure to hold the flowers in place." She told him.
"Let's get to work." He said. And soon, after tracking down just about every piece of vine and small twig they could find, they return back to the flower fields. Sam selected each and every different choice of flower he wanted to use, gave them to Angel and watched her get to work by tying them good and tight to the twigs with the vine. She continued working on the second round for the other flower necklace, when Samwise's attention was drawn elsewhere.
From there, he spotted just a feet away of a gorgeous flower ready to bloom. The hobbit excused himself to go see what kind of flower it was. When he finally got there, he saw it opened up, revealing it's white and yellow petals. "Wow! Aren't you a lovely beauty?" Sam whispers, admiring the beautiful flower. He glanced back over to see that the queen was almost finished with her handy work, and from there he spotted Angel trying to brushed back a piece of her hair over her right crooked ear, but the hair seem to failed for keeping it back.
"Oh stupid little--Oooh!" She grumbled frustrated underneath her breath, trying again but still not worked.
Surely, the queen probably would not mind if the hobbit presented her with a flower of her very own to keep as a gift, so Sam returned back with the flower he took. "Here!" He spoken, brushing the piece of her hair back for her and placed the flower to keep it in place.
Angel didn't had time to react until he was done. She spotted a small puddle not too far from her, where she look on over to see what it was and found it to be a flower. "What's this for?" She asks Sam, turning back over to him.
"Think of it as a gift." Sam replied, but before she even had another chance of saying anything else, Sam explained a bit more better about the flower he had given to her as a present. "I'm a gardener, so I know the meanings each flower symbolizes. The white flowers mean purity. Just like you; you're pure and filled with graceful and elegance innocence." He says, pointing a finger to the white petals.
Angel check one more time from the reflection of the small puddle. "And what do the yellow ones mean?" She asks, curiously pointing about to the yellow petals the flower has.
"Friendship!" Sam revealed.
A symbol of friendship? Now it made perfect sense now. Samwise now saw her as a friend, a very good friend where no more fighting getting involved. No more quarreling, bickering, but a good strong bonding of friendship. Angel had never received any type of gift from Sam alone, not even a flower that to shown the true meaning behind their dearly great friendship they have now easily bond over with. The queen smiled, gazing down trying not to blush. It was so flattering, she didn't know what was there to say. "Thank you." She finally said. "You're a very kind and generous hobbit, I can see why Frodo has always been very fond of you."
"I've always been like that." Sam smiled with a shrug to his shoulders. With that being said, it was true but he felt pretty bad Angel was the last person to see that from him.
"I...I never thought I'd come to one day saying this, but...I'm sorry...for, you know--thinking you could of maybe been in love with me." Angel apologized, on behalf of her overreaction but was a bit embarrassed because she had never apologized to Sam before.
"Common misunderstanding. Anyone would've taken it the wrong way, but I accept your apology Angel." Sam says, showing that there was no hard feelings between the both of them. The hobbit took some time off, letting the hobbit/wizard queen enjoy a moment to herself while Sam walked back by to where the sea turtles were swimming in the water and there he took a seat down by the sand and enjoyed taking the time to smoking his pipe.
One thing did came to mind for the hobbit; something he hadn't thought of before up until now. By the time Tristan and Gloin will soon be found, Sam knew for sure that Legolas, Emily and Gimli would have to go back to Narnia once they would have their sons back. Whom then will be able to reach out to Angel when she has to have a friend in need? Not Emily, that's for sure given how the last time any of them last saw all three of them was during the double wedding. Even for the hobbit, he was really more surprised Emily chose not stay in Middle-Earth for all of their sake; just given that kind of thought made Sam see to what a greedy and awfully selfish person Emily seem to be to him now.
Now that he had bonded well with Angel, Sam wouldn't want to see that kind of painful blow of disappointment happening to her all over again if Emily should walked right outta Angel's life like before.
"Hmm...maybe I could be Angel's best friend." He thought to himself, liking that idea a lot.
"Sure, Mr. Frodo won't mind the idea at all. I could have two best friends instead of one!" Sam came to an instant stop puffing from his smoking pipe when he heard the sudden sounds of a egg cracking. He turned to see and spotted a nest of sea turtle eggs hatching.
Oh and what a nice sight it was see; cute little baby sea turtles being born. Once they were all hatched, they instantly hurried on down to the water to go out for their first swim. Sam smiled, shaking his head before looking up at the sky, humming a few more bars to himself before finishing off the song.
"Finding, finding
Losing and finding
Making, making a bond that is strong
Building, building a house for a friendship
Breathing a breath for our song
Song
For our song...."Unknown to the two halflings, Frodo and the others were already almost closely to reaching the very place they were getting to; Lothlorien! To meet up with the very oldest and wisest elves there ever is; Lady Galadriel!
OCC2: One of my favorite songs from one of the Winnie the Pooh movies I just had to put in this scene just to make it sweeter than honey! Tee-hee!
